Conducting Day to Raise Awareness about Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Awareness Sharing Campaign
On November 27, 2024, the Women Lead Resource Center (WLRC), together with partner organizations, conducted an awareness-sharing campaign in advance of the official observance of the Day to Raise Awareness about Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The online session, attended by 24 participants, focused on the harmful cultural and gendered aspects of FGM and similar practices.
The organizing team highlighted FGM’s roots in gender inequality and its severe physical and psychological effects on women and girls. Participants shared personal experiences, discussed the impact of cultural norms, and explored strategies for combating FGM through education, legal reforms, and community engagement. The session emphasized the importance of raising awareness, challenging cultural stigmas, and advocating for gender equality to protect the health and rights of women and girls.
