Since the February 1, 2021 coup, Myanmar’s military junta has persistently violated human rights. In June 2024, the State Administration Council (SAC) escalated its oppressive measures, resulting in severe abuses. The junta’s violent crackdowns on peaceful protests included tear gas, rubber bullets, and live ammunition, leading to numerous injuries and deaths. Arbitrary arrests and detentions targeted activists, journalists, and civilians, many of whom endured torture and ill-treatment in secret locations. There were also reports of targeted killings of political opponents, creating a climate of fear and repression. Military operations displaced entire communities, causing a humanitarian crisis with thousands lacking basic necessities.<\/span><\/p>\n The SAC further intensified its suppression of free speech by shutting down independent media outlets and enforcing internet blackouts to silence dissent and control information. This video clip, produced in collaboration with Youth Empowerment (YE), Women Lead Resource Center (WLRC), and Magway Region Human Rights Network (MHRN), underscores the SAC’s human rights violations in June 2024.
